As many as 20% of organisations have experienced at least one IoT-based attack in the past three years, according to a survey conducted by global research firm Gartner. In 2018 many businesses in America identified prevention of business disruption as a key factor for their IoT security investments. But the ever increasing number of attacks mounted on IoT installations in the region have clearly shown the danger that persists despite high level of awareness.
Attacks on IoT deployments can derail projects, increase project costs, reduce stakeholder confidence and expose vital data to misuse. Since many projects are still at a nascent stage, paying attention to security is not just important but is a downright necessity.
