As many as 20% of organisations have experienced at least one IoT-based attack in the past three years, according to a survey conducted by global research firm Gartner. In 2018 alone, spending on IoT security is expected to increase by 28% from 2017 levels, to reach $1.5 billion and $3.1 billion in 2021. This clearly underscores the significance that businesses are attaching to IoT security.
Attacks on IoT deployments can derail projects, increase project costs, reduce stakeholder confidence and expose vital data to misuse. Since many projects are still at a nascent stage, paying attention to security is not just important but is a downright necessity.
